Did you know...

That with most handheld GPS units you do not have to enter the waypoints from this book manually?

The waypoints are held in the GPX format files from the download page on this website, one file for each trip. Software is required to enable the download. Details of how to obtain the software available for various operating systems are at http://www.gpsbabel.org. We use a PC running Windows, and we use the free G7ToWin software. The procedure we use is:

1. To download the G7ToWin software (This enables upload of GPS data to Garmin, Magellan, and Lowrance/Eagle GPS sets from a PC running Windows):

First go to : http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh. Download the latest version of G7ToWin with the help file and place it in a new folder or Desktop. Right click on the zipped folder, and click on extract all.

2. Connect your GPS set to your PC via the GPS manufacturer's cable. Delete any waypoints in the GPS with names 1 through 10, as these will be used by the trip waypoints.

3. Open the new folder G7ToWin, and double click on the file G7ToWin RonAtHome. The application software now opens.

4. Click on File > Open, find the downloaded waypoints file of the relevant trip, and open it with .gpx selected as file type. Open the trip whose waypoints you wish to download. The waypoints will now be displayed.

5. Click on GPS > upload to GPS > waypoints. The waypoints should now be transferred to the GPS set.

This is one way to do it. You may also use software that came with your GPS unit if you have it.
